In this racing game the player must employ a variety of methods and controls to win a race against other vehicles. There are many various sorts of races, including Road Races, Stadium Races, Rustbucket Races, and more. In story mode, players can play any race they've unlocked.
The Story Mode guides players through the game's plot as they accomplish activities in order to advance. There are a variety of activities to choose from, including racing and minigames. The player rewarded with a number of Bolt Banners that represent their progress after achieving particular conditions during an event. The game has a total of 350 Bolt Banners to acquire.
Many components from the video game Cars return, as well as a number of new features. Luigi and Guido's Team Relay is a new racing option that allows users to manage multiple vehicles in a single race, with each car completing a lap. Monster Truck Waypoint Races are also introduced in this game, in which competitors must compete against one other while also driving through a series of checkpoints.
